Burger King Crown Program - GIVEAWAY!

IMAGINATION IS KING™ at BURGER KING®. The new BK CROWNTM/MC Program, built to inspire every kid´s imagination and encourage kids to help choose how BK® gives back, brings families together to enjoy not just a meal but a mealtime experience.

The BK CROWNTM/MC Program comes in a fully interactive Kids Meal box. Sitting atop each box is a newly redesigned BURGER KING® crown, because every kid deserves to be treated like royalty at BURGER KING®! With crowns on their heads, kids can dive into the box, taking it apart, playing fun games and activities that challenge their minds, inspire their imagination and engage with the whole family.
With the BK CROWNTM/MC Program, Burger King Corporation invites kids to tell BURGER KING® what matters to them most. BKC has established a fund to help support the Wildlife Conservation Society, National Parks Conservation Association, DonorsChoose.org and Have It Your WayTM Foundation. By visiting BKCrown.com, kids learn how BKC´s charitable partners make a difference. Upon entering BK CROWNTM/MC Codes and clicking on their favorite cause, each kid´s vote helps BK® choose which charity to give back to.

The fun doesn´t end at the restaurant; the BK CROWNTM/MC Program experience lives on at http://www.bkcrown.com/ where kids can place their vote for how BKC should give back, as well as find more games, win prizes and enjoy interactive play.

When you visit BURGER KING® right now, for just $9.99 your family can enjoy the "BKTM Family Bundle" which includes a WHOPPER® sandwich, WHOPPER JR.® sandwich., two small fries, two small soft drinks and a Kids Meal. Now that´s a deal worth getting together for. Limited time only.

Friday Fact - Television Viewing

Did you know that the average child watches 6,240 hours of television before entering first grade?  That comes out to be about 2 hours and 45 minutes per day!  There can be significant consequences for watching this much television…
It has been shown that children who watch television more than 10 hours a week suffer negative academic effects (www.cybercollege.com).  This could be the reason why:
  • Viewing television is a two-dimensional activity, because it has a flat screen.
  • Watching multiple hours of television per day can impact the eye’s ability to focus correctly.
  • Our eyes are designed to adjust focus at many different angles and ranges.
  • When children are playing around, their eyes are constantly refocusing.
  • When they watch television, their eyes are sustaining focus at only one range.
The long-term effects of too much television watching can be harmful.  A child’s eyes may:
  • Struggle keeping near objects in focus (such as worksheets, reading materials, and other deskwork).
  • Have trouble focusing quickly, and accurately, between near and far objects (such as the desk and board when taking notes, doing a worksheet, or working on a class project).

Friday Fact - Family Meals

Research has shown that from the time children are very young, making the effort to establish a family meal habit (sitting down together with no tv, cell phones, etc.) is an investment in their future as students, athletes and overall participants in their community.  Statistics show the impact is evident in grades, behavior and overall success.

Car Seat Safety

The American Academy of Pediatrics has a new policy addressing the use of car safety seats. The policy advises parents to keep their toddlers in rear-facing car seats until age 2, or until they reach the maximum height and weight for their seat. It also advises that most children will need to ride in a belt-positioning booster seat until they have reached 4 feet 9 inches tall and are between 8 and 12 years of age.

Several articles on HealthyChildren.org have been updated to reflect the new policy, including
